Senate minority leader Charles Schumer has warned about the violent protests by thousands of the US President Donald Trumps supporters, as they are are planning to storm the Capitol ahead of the Inauguration Day.
"There are people plotting to do danger, at least online, and the bottom line is our authorities have to be completely on top of it," Schumer told reporters on Wednesday.
The comments by Schumer come after the FBI warned all the 50 states to be alert ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Jan. 20.
The Head of Pentagons National Guard Bureau Daniel Hokanson also has announced that at least 10,000 troops will be deployed on January 20th in Washington, DC, while an additional 5,000 could be requested based on requests from the Secret Service, the Park Police and the Capitol Police.
The guard soldiers are also authorized to make arrests if the situation got out of hand, according to the top commander.
Last Wednesday, armed protesters broke into the US Capitol, forcing the chamber to halt the ongoing vote to certify Bidens election win. After two months of refusal to accept his defeat in the November 3 election, Trump sparked the violence, calling on his supporters to "fight like hell."
With eight days remaining in the Republican presidents term in office, the US House of Representatives is poised on Wednesday to pass an article of impeachment amid continuing fallout from last weeks deadly Capitol violence.
Meanwhile, at least four Republicans, including a member of the House leadership, said they would join the effort to vote for Trumps impeachment.
In addition, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, has told associates he believes Trump had committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased with the Democrats move to impeach him.
